Missoula County Auditor Barbara Berens announced Wednesday, May 3, that she retire effective Aug. 11.. The Board of Missoula County Commissioners will make an appointment to fill her position for the reminder of her term through Dec. 31, 2018.
“I’ve spent an amazing 15 years as county auditor.,” Berens said. “It’s been a privilege to be part of the talented and committed team doing such good work for everyone in Missoula County.”
“Barbara Berens has been an outstanding auditor,” Commissioner Jean Curtiss said. “She has great attention to detail and is willing to jump in wherever needed and with a smile. It’s been an honor to work with her and to have her as a member of our team.”
Because Berens will retire before her term expires, the Board of Missoula County Commissioners will appoint an interim auditor. This vote does not need to be unanimous. The commissioners will meet in June to outline the process for making the appointment. The person appointed must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of Missoula County for one year preceding the appointment.
Once an interim auditor has been appointed, he or she will fully carry out the duties of the position as if he or she were elected.
